Moratorium (मोरेटोरियम (चुकौती स्थगन))
A moratorium is a sanctioned pause on your loan repayments for a defined period, during which you usually owe no EMI but interest keeps accruing. Unless the lender explicitly waives it, the paused interest is added to your dues, so a moratorium defers cost rather than removing it.
Worked example
A 3-month moratorium on ₹50,000 at 18% a year: about ₹2,250 of interest accrues during the pause and is added to your outstanding, raising later EMIs or extending the tenure.
