FOIR (Fixed Obligation to Income Ratio) (निश्चित दायित्व-आय अनुपात (एफओआईआर))
FOIR is the share of your monthly income already committed to EMIs and other fixed obligations, which lenders use to judge how much more you can safely borrow. Most lenders prefer total obligations, including the proposed new EMI, to stay under roughly 40–55% of income.
Worked example
Salary ₹40,000, existing EMIs ₹10,000: FOIR = 25%. A new ₹6,000 EMI takes it to 40% — likely acceptable; a ₹14,000 EMI would push it to 60% and probably a decline.
