Write-off (राइट-ऑफ (बट्टे खाते डालना))
A write-off is an accounting step where the lender removes a defaulted loan from its books, but your legal liability to repay does not disappear and recovery attempts can continue. On your bureau report "written off" is among the worst statuses and severely limits access to new credit.
Worked example
A ₹40,000 loan unpaid for over a year gets written off; two years later a collection agency still contacts you lawfully for it. Paying it and getting the status updated to a post-write-off closure is the first step to repair.
